Hello Everyone,

Thought I would leave a bit of an introduction to you all :) Well as you know I am new to the forum. I have only owned one lovebird so far and still own that same one. Her name is Houdini and Iv had her I believe since 2003. I bought her from a breeder while she was a young fledgling and hand reared her myself. We are both very bonded to each other.

I believe that Houdini is a "dutch blue" but iv also been told she may be a "sea green" Ill post a picture and let you decide :p

Iv owned birds in the past, both budgies and cockatiels. Currently though its just Houdini and I. I also own two cats a bunch of gerbils and two hamsters.

I’m originally from Canada "Ontario" but now living here in beautiful CT with my husband. He works and I’m pretty much the housewife, I work on my freelance artwork and take care of the pets and house. Houdini is quite spoiled because of it. She’s out in the morning around 8am and put to bed around 7pm and spends pretty much all day out side the cage, either on it or her play stand or with me. She gets to eat her breakfast lunch and dinner onto her cage and always has a ready supply of dehydrated fresh veggies and millet sprays/sprigs to eat.

Here is a recent picture of her outside in one of our small apple trees.

I find lovebirds to be comparable with that of a lion and ferret. At lest Houdini is, she’s the only lovebird I’v had hands on experience with. I found lovebirds to be, in personality, much different then cockatiels and budgies. They seem to act more like their larger relative parrots with the exception of using their claws/feet to manipulate food in the same manner. They are wonderful little birds and it might be nice to get another some day but Houdini and I are quite happy with each other right now.

So nice to meet you all, and look forward to reading peoples posts.

Thanks for the reply Nicky,

Its indeed a wonderfull experiance to hand raise a bird. Iv raised two birds in total, Houdini and I also raised a baby cockatiel from hatching when I bred an old pair I user to have :) its a very rewarding experiance!

welcome welcome :)

Currently we only have one lovie ruling the house here by the name of Friday. He's quite a character (surprise surprise :lol ) and we're thinking about getting him a friend sometime in the reletively nearish future... but no definite plans yet.

As you can tell, it's a very friendly bunch here, and we're looking forward to seeing more of you and Houdini :)

Welcome to the board! I have one pair of lovebirds, Sara and Jake...two pair of cockatiels....and two pair of budgies. The recent pair of tiels....Jack the male does the wolf wistle, wipper will, and says sweet heart. He came from a home with a conure and I think he speaks conure too. My husband comes in every evening and lets each pair (excluding the budgies-not tame enough) sit on his shoulder one pair at a time and you should see who gets jelous. It is soooo funny.
