Ok, so Estrella seems to be doing an awful lot of mating dances lately...especially when I am on the computer. Does this mean that Estrella is attracted to the keyboard/mouse?!?! or me?!?!?

I have also noticed that the dances are becoming more progressed..i.e. longer, and weirder

ok, so what should I do? Sometimes it almost seems like he does it in an effort to gain my attention. He will be in mid dance, come over and want me to pet him..should I to divert his attention and pet him or will this lead to masturbation? I really do not know what to do here, and also feel he is really young to be doing this ( a little over 5 months) Also, another question about this behavior..Everytime he does the dance, he tears off a piece of paper and chews it while he makes the clickey noise, do any of your lovies do this? is this normal?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Christian, the first time Oliver did the clicky dance for me I had no earthly idea what was going on. I'd had him for months before he first did it and he was way beyond the beginning of puberty (at 7 when I adopted him).

I say....just go with the flow! :D Oliver never tried to mount or mate ON me but loved to go in circles, scratch that cheek and CLICK, CLICK, CLICK. :D I took it as a compliment and never laid a single egg! :rotfl

Five months sounds about right. :)

My Milo's first, um, experience, was with the computer. It makes clicky noises, you see. Even though he now has a mate, he still occasionally tries to seduce the mouse, complete with foot shuffling, clicking, face scratching, walking in a little circle ... yep. It's perfectly normal.

The paper is new to me, though, but it makes sense. "Check me out, I'm a stud with my clicky dances, but I'm a family man too. I can help you make a nest, my little chickie, see how I can shred paper?"

... are clicky dances usually the forte of boys or girls??
My charlie loves to dance for me (and the mouse.. tried to mount it the other day  ), and is obsessed with making nesting material- though recently he has also started making spitballs.
He gets v possessive though... any cushion or fold in cloth/ blankets immediately becomes his 'nest'

..still trying to decided whether I have a hen or not! hehe ;)

"lightbulb going on inside my head" I could never figure out why kiwi liked my keyboard and mouse so much!!!!!!!!!!!! That makes perfect sense - typing, typing..... clicky, clicky................:clap

i agree with janie - go with the flow - not much you can do to stop the instinctual drive they have. :)

You'd be surprised! Male Masked can build some pretty elaborate nests. They carry stuff to their nest with their beaks.

Oh the spitballs :x... for the past two or three months, haku has been loading up his cage with paper spitballs... it's like the devil has got to him, he gets into this frantic paper- tearing mode and will tear, roll, etc for hours...
i have to say it's a wee bit cute though :D

 haha, its not too cute though when you are in the process of organizing a final notebook to turn in as part of your internship requirement for college!! I spent all night trying to shoo him off of my notebook, and redirecting him to paper that he CAN chew on...He never seems to want the paper I give him, only the paper I need! :x

But the paper you need is obviously better because it's what you kept for yourself.
