I have adopted a lovebird. I have had her/him 3 weeks now! "Betty" has not been DNA'd so not really sure of the gender. Betty sits on her happy hut and "gacks". I have read that this is male behavior. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

That behavior is more common in males but not exclusive to males. Some males shred and tuck and some females gack. DNA is the only way to be sure. Well, one other way is to find an eggie someday! :lol

Janie's right. I have 20 lovies and know the sex of most of them and their behaviors run the gamut. One of my best shredders and tuckers is my proven male Won Ton. I also have a couple of females that love to gack and hump things  .

is gacking really a male trait?
I thought Keiko was a female but I haven't had her sexed yet but everytime she sees my finger she gacks at it..nothing comes up but its weird...and everytime I put my finger up towards her beak.

Mydoona. Sounds like you have a very attentive lovebird :). As mentioned, while it is more noticable in males, both genders take on the responsibility of feeding their young (gacking/regurgitating). Therefore, making this activity "not" a good way in trying to determine Keiko's gender. It is possible (cute :)) that Keiko may be tending to "his" babies beaks (your fingernails) the moment they present themselves, or Keiko's accepting food from "her" mate in order to feed "her" young.....:)

Well, one other way is to find an eggie someday! :lol:lol That's for sure! I thought my sweet soft yellow Creamino named Daisy was a girl until "she" paired with Olivia (who is sex-linked female). Olivia laid 6 eggs her first clutch and three hatched  Yep, that sweet little Creamino is now a male named Daisy  Advice: Get them DNA'd if you want to be sure.

I know exactly what you're going through.
I was sure I had a boy. HE was humping everything, and I wanted a boy anyway.
Then HE started shredding and tucking. Then HE started gacking.
Then SHE started laying eggs, and now has 4!!!
I was going to have her DNA'd in the next couple of weeks anyway. She beat me to it.
