Hi all,
Wondering if anyone has ever had their lovie act strangely. Today Eddie was running around on my chest while I was reclined on the sofa. He was running from ear to ear, back and forth, nibbling my ears and almost rolling around. He was flapping his wings against my face too.
I noticed yesterday he ate two nutriberries and had crumbs all over my shirt which he then was rolling in. He looked almost like he was taking a dust bath in them like wild birds.
What does this mean?

Hi! I'm beginning to think crazy behavior is normal for lovebirds. Our birds' favorite toy is my husband Dave. Sometimes they will be playing with the zipper and collar on the front of his work shirt and then they will start running around in circles and flapping their wings like crazy and jumping up and down. I wish we could get a video of this because it always makes both of us laugh.
When we first got them in August we didn't realize their antics would be like Cirque du Soleil! We worried because two sides of their cages have vertical bars and we thought they wouldn't be able to climb up except on the sides with horizontal bars.
Wrong! Not only do they climb up, they have developed a technique of sliding down that reminds us of someone rapelling down the side of a cliff. And, their ability to hang by one foot and stretch out as far as they can to get where they want to go also surprised us.
None of the birds I'd had previously were parrots and they didn't do these amazing stunts.
Enjoy the antics!

i think it means eddie is acting like a lovie!!!!  kiwi runs all over my son's chest, zipping in and out of his shirt repeatedly, while they are watching tv. he even brought a piece of nutriberry inside his shirt the other day to eat, then brought bits of it to his belt, his pockets and his socks, going back and forth like a madman!! i thought it was hilarious - my son.....not so much!!

Sounds like something my Melody would do when she's all wound up. Eddie's just exercising his right to act like a freaky bird.

So glad. Thanks for the stories gang!
Another interesting bit of info I learned on here that has helped me was that bit I read that lovies see the human head as another bird, and the hands are perches, or a threat. I find that Eddie tries to protect my face (the bird) from the scary perches (hands). He doesn't bite that hard yet, I just grin and bear it and make no reaction. I say "no bite" but don't shout.
Now when he is hanging out under my chin, I don't bring my hands to my face.

I found this to be a very interesting observation a few years ago but never really gave it much though until recently. This may explain why a few birds don't appreciate certain parts of the human anatomy, especially hands that appear to orbit around what they feel is the safest part of the human body, your head :)! Little do they realize though, this is where all the problems begin:wink:.
