Hi I am Dave from the UK. I have 6 fischers.
I have had many troubles before finally having a successful breeding pair.
Now that i have a willing man and wife birdy combination everything is rosy in the aviary. I thought that I was doing something wrong for 2 years but my message to any hopeful lovebird breeders is to keep on trying. It will be worth it in the end.
I wonder now that my birds have started how do I stop them?

Hi Dave and welcome to our community!
Lovebirds tend to be very prolific breeders once they start and convincing them that enough it enough can sometimes be very challenging, to say the least! Check in our Breeding Forum and you will see that you are not alone! :lol

A big welcome from Michigan!

I Know the feeling when it comes to breeding. At first I thought my birds would never be successful.

The people on this board are very friendly and helpful! There is NO better
board in my mind!

Hi Dave and welcome!!!!!! The only way I know how to stop them from breeding is to have only one sex! :D I just added to precious babies yesterday. These two brothers will make three......my other lovie is an older male and *I* am his mate. Fortunately, I have not laid an egg yet! :D

I think the Fishers are just beautiful and hope you'll share photos with us soon! :)

Hi Dave,

Welcome to the board :) .

You can possibly put a hen with nesting in mind for a bit, but not forever. First you will want to remove any nesting materials, and take away the nest box. Then rearrange the cage, perches, toys, etc..... If she persists, you can move the cage location and see if that will work, as if they are not in their comfy spot, they may put it off until they become comfortable where they are.

I look forward to seeing you around the board, and please do post us some pics in the photo forum when you get a chance.

Welcome, Dave...I too was anxious to breed...but now I need a break (never mind the hens!!)

What has worked for me (so far...will keep it posted...) was to rotate the cages. Pair A went into Pair B's cage, Pair B went into Pair C's cage, Pair C went into Pair A's cage...this absolutely stopped all but one pair, who, as i posted in another thread, immediately broke in the new cage, if you know what I mean. Three eggs so far and more on the way, I suspect.

I am not sure what you should do if yours are in an aviary situation...

But hey, we all love the babies!!!

Welcome from a fellow UK board member.

Whereabouts are you? I'm in Essex.

As for breeding - oh yes, once they get the hang of it.... :omg:
