If it was on Saturday I'd pop on over--I'll be in Berkeley, "mother sitting". But Sunday is my day at the aquarium (volunteer guide, every other Sunday afternoon). Perhaps we can meet in the aviary (of course) some Sunday :)We couldn't bring our birdies, but there are lots of neat birds there. Have you met Makana, our albatross, yet  And how is Benji doing?

What REALLY bums me out about this bird fair is that it is on Feb.1st, and in the advertisement...they make sure to emphasize that it is AIR CONDITIONED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What is up with that--LOL!!!!!!!!:rofl::rofl: Of course...one must remember...I live in Minnesota!!!!

would you believe I have not been to the aviary there!! Some how I have managed to miss it. I love the aquarium!! We are due to visit again soon too.
Benji seems to be doing better a little every day. He is being more and more energetic. He is such a good bird at taking his medicine!

My sister used to live in Minnesota. Her two youngest daughters still do.

I'm going to pretend you didn't say that! A bird lover like you & you haven't been to the aiviary  Seriously, you are in for a big treat. The aviary is one of my favorite exhibits. I especially like it toward the end of the day when the birds are taking their baths & preening themselves to be nice & clean for a night on the beach--the aviary is open to the outside air. (There is a box with down jackets for the guides to wear--and there are times when we do need them! But not very often :) The birds, of course, have their own down coats ) The next couple of months is a good time to go since the birds are transitioning into breeding plumage. The Ruddy Duck already has his blue bill & the white feathers on the Stilts and Avocets are turning cinnamon brown. The phalaropes haven't started turning yet, but they will soon. The aviary in the spring can get pretty lively, too, what with territorial disputes & the occasional hen who isn't "in the mood" The only time I have ever had to put on my "protect the birds" hat was when a killdeer hen decided to fly out of her side of the aviary and land on the floor in the people side--to get away from her "fella". She went back on her own eventually. I just had to keep the visitors at a safe distance until she decided to "go home". And I'm sure you will be impressed with Makana's (albatross) size, what with Benji and Cricket as yardsticks  Anyway, I'll PM you my contact info & maybe we can arrange a time to meet there--I've been a guide for 18 years but I'm still not tired of giving the "grand tour".

This offer is good for any Lovebirds Plus Community members who are in the area & planning to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

So glad Benji is on the mend  Buddy is also excellent about taking meds. Makes life much easier on both of us, since she is on twice a day meds for the rest of her life. :(

Then I guess I shouldn't tell you that while it was a little chilly yesterday morning (I almost wished I had worn a sweater) I had to run the air conditioner in the car for a few minutes in the afternoon. You know, to chill it down a bit after it had been parked in the sun  We really could use some rain, though. Maybe you could ship some of your snow out here to bulk up our mountain snow pack--so we'll have some water this summer!

How far is the aquarium from San Fransisco and/or Pinole? I have a cousin & nephew in SF and friends in Pinole. I'm hoping to get out there in June/July or Sept/Oct. Maybe we could try to schedule a LPS rendevous :)

Yes! Yes! And the restaurant in the Aquarium is really nice...one of the best views on Cannery Row. I get a 20% discount--for my entire party  So we could go watch the birds in the aviary eat their yummy worms & maggots & krill, then go watch the cormorants & gulls & guillomots forage in the bay while we indulge ourselves with people food. Anyone else care to join us

And not just maggots. Restaurant quality maggots! The birdies love them. And I love pointing out to the children what the birds are eating. Usually, the girls go, "eeeeeewww" and the boys go, "Cool!"

Shows how much I know about CA geography

How far is it from San Francisco?

Bubblelady

About 120 miles.

The real question in California is how long between point A and point B, not how far. It can take an hour to go 5 miles in Los Angeles. Or in the San Francisco area at certain times.

But drive time during non rush hours is between 2 and 2 1/2 hours from both Pinole and San Francisco. I'm 120 from my mom's. It usually takes me about 2 hours to 2 hours & 15 minutes. Except on Friday evenings when it takes 3 hours to 3 hours & 15 minutes.

not to mention it depends on which highway one takes too. hehe
