As you can see, I'm new, although not new to forums in general. At the moment, I do not own any lovebirds, but I will within the next few days. A breeding pair, in fact. I'm quite excited, as I've always loved the idea of raising birds. I currently have a nine year old English Budgie, as well as a four month old regular Budgie. I'd also love to breed English Budgies, but I can't find anyone in Winnipeg who does anymore, so I'm a little saddened (hopefully someone here may know of someone! but it's doubtful). I also own two dogs, (one who is a Border Collie/Husky cross, and the other is an Alaskan Malamute/Husky cross) as well as Australian Walking Sticks. As you can probably tell, I'm a huge animal lover, but I'll bore you no further. I hope I'll enjoy my time here, and perhaps absorb some information, as well.

Hi there, fellow Canuck!!! I live in BC in the Fraser Valley.

You definitely will absorb some info here, there is lots to be had. I am glad you found us here...you will find help with just about any problem you might run into. And, as I have found, you never know what will happen when you begin breeding. Read as much as you can in the breeding forum so you have an idea of what you might run into!!

I myself have, or rather, had, 17 lovies...two of my babies sold today, very sad, but we cant keep them all...so I am down to 15.
Tell us all about your new pair...

Hi and welcome to our community!
We have a nice "Canadian Connection" here so perhaps someone will know someone, if you know what I mean.

Looking forward to hearing about the lovebirds you will be getting!

Hi,

Welcome to the board :) I'm glad you have found us, and hope you will learn much, as well as share your own experiences. Real life experiences is what you will find here, as well as professional breeding information, but the real life experiences is what is worth so much, as that you will never find in a book for the most part.

I look forward to hearing all about your new pair, and of course all future babies. I do have to ask, what are Australian Walking Sticks?????

Hi and welcome! :) This is a great place to learn lots and lots about lovebirds and you can't bore us with your animal stories, :D We love 'em!

I share my home with one hubby, one son here the other has moved on (:D), one Sheltie and three precious little lovebirds! My normal peaceface is an older bird that we adopted almost 2 years ago and I have just welcomed two more, a WF Blue and a WF Violet. They are brothers and are just over 2 months old.

I was going to ask about the Australian Walking Sticks but I see that Lori already has! :D Can't wait to hear about that!

Thank you all for the warm welcomes. :) And yes, I've noticed a few Canadians around here, which had given me some hope.

Heh, as for the walking sticks (order phasmida), they are insects that closely resemble sticks, or twigs. There are also other insects in this order that look like the leaves of trees (which, unfortunately, I haven't come across yet). I first saw these stick insects at the zoo, then later on, at my University. They don't do a whole lot, but they're certainly interesting to look at. I found mine at a petstore, and decided that I'd like to try and breed them. But it's very difficult to determine the gender of a stick bug, and even the petstore owner wasn't entirely sure. Anyways, I bought three, and took them home to an aquarium. All I needed to feed them was romaine lettuce. So as you can see, they're easy enough to take care of. I've had to buy three more since then, because the original three have died off (generally living for a year or less, and the first three I bought were all ready months old). But just a few weeks ago, I've started to see babies in the aquarium! I also know what the eggs look like now (they are oval shaped, and a blue-ish colour) and I can see a lot more on the ground. I only have pictures of the adults right now, but I'll take some pictures of the babies for you guys later.

Welcome!
:lol The walking sticks are cool  and unusual.
You'll find all sorts of good information here, and hopefully find it useful. I've learned so much more hear than from the books I've read. Plus, we have fun, too.

Hello & Welcome from Atlanta, Ga.

I am owned by three lovies. Molly is a 1 yr old Lutino Peachface, Daisy is a 6 mth old Creamino & Piper is a 3 mth old Pied. I just can't stop "collecting" lovebirds. They are very addictive so try and control yourself. I tried to tell Janie this and now she has three!! Although, she will tell you I'm the uncontrolable one. :D

Can wait to see pictures of your flock. See ya around the board,

Heh, the stick insects are neat to have as pets. I'm not a huge insect lover or anything, I just find them really interesting.

I also just found out today that I'll be getting my two lovebirds sometime tomorrow. I'm very excited, and will post pictures of them soon!

And yes, I'm finding that I'm enjoying myself here. I've come across a few recipes I'm definitely going to try out, and information that appears to be useful. Thanks again. :)

Welcome.....I saw a pair of Blue English Budgies at the bird show I visited recently....they are outstanding......who knew that walking sticks eat lettuce....if I'd known that I'd have kept many as a child......I can't believe you guys didn't know what they were......maybe they are only in the ozarks???.....I've never seen them in a pet store.....so maybe they were shipped from the ozarks......and they are very cool.....about as much fun as watching praying mantis......but then again I was a kid who liked bugs.:P
