I have a situation. I have a black mask female who was the best mom in the world with hubbie a sea green cinnamon peach face. She had 5 babes - 2 orange/yellow peach face and 3 orange/green peach face. I found homes for 4 but kept one (orange/yellow peach face) but now the babe is the dominant female and bonded with the dad. They have ganged up on the Mom and now will not even let her reenter the cage. They each sit beside the door and fight her to keep her out. I need to find a home for dad and babe. The mom is my first and favorite. Ideally I would find a black mask male for her to bond with. If anyone can help please let me know. Thanks so much.

Hi Donna,
There is a breeder in Chesapeake, VA that breeds Masked Lovies. Her name is Kathy Greaser, KG Kat Aviaries. I can PM you her e-mail address if you are interested. Kathy may have a Black Masked male that is available.
Hopefully, there may be one of our members on the board who is close to you who can help. In the meantime, read through some of the forums, particularly Behavior, and you may come up with some ideas.

Please do give her my info - Mom is so special I would love to take the best care of her ever -
have had NO responses to Dad and daughter finding a home - I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to see the Mom harassed - it's still safe but not pleasant - what do I do if no one replies? An animal shelter? What ??? I am so tired of seeing her abused.....thanks again.....donnamay

I would seprate dad and the daughter if you could. I wish I was closer I would take them. But Georgia is a long ways..lol. If you have another cage I would get mom away from them as sad to say they could kill her. I hope your able to find someone soon to get them so poor mom can get a break.

And amazingly I knew someone would sit in judgement - so what is it you would chose to say?
Judge not lest ye be judged -
sometimes things happen - and people do the best they can with the situation -
I wish you peace

Hybridization was never the issue here. The baby is a Peachface x eye-ring cross so reproduction is not going to happen. You are simply looking for a home for dad and the baby.
If you still haven't had any luck finding homes for the pair, can you give your Mask hen her own cage? That would be a temporary solution to the problem. I've not had any luck with my contacts and, true, the focus is the Gulf coast at the moment.

Donna I wish you were closer to me. I know it is hard trying to find a new place for a bird. I hope you find a solution soon.

Thanks so much to those who understood and supported my situation - Mama is happily singing and flying wildly around since Dad and baby Sunshine are gone -
they have been successfully placed with an incredible group called Phoenix Landing - who will insure they are safe and loved immensely.
Best of luck to the best of us - DMay
