Ah yes, she is my biter. Before we got Dominick (her mate), she never bit me. She was a snuggly thing and everything. Now.. she is constantly nesty when she is around him, so she bites. And when she bites, she breaks the skin nearly every time! Owowow.

The funny thing is, the moment I get her away from him and in a different room (away from the cage, away from the male!), she calms down and lets me pet her and love on her like normal!

It's good to know my baby girl is still in there somewhere.. she just gets taken over by them nasty hormones! I'm sure many other people would have given up on her, but when she gets snuggly with me again and gives me kisses I don't regret the scars she's given me.

Anyone got a similar experience? Or is she just a bit weird. :D

Hey Kaye,

Good to see ya :D

I really can't relate to the biting. I have to say, with my lovies I'm very lucky, as Lacey is just an angel, and oh yeah, I tell her that all the time. Cappie, my GCC, now that's another story. He just turned a year old recently and I do believe he's got hormones raging outta control. The only thing I can relate to is that Lacey does seem to get protective of Bela if I happen to rub him the wrong way, so maybe Aleda is just protecting her man??????

C-Ya around.

Kaye: It sounds like Aleda is a normal girl :D. I have a couple of hens who bite when they're near or in their cage. The funniest thing is my hen Spike. She's about 1 1/2 and went through her hormonal bitey stage and had calmed down. Then we got her a friend, Bocephus, and she became a raging maniac whenever she's near her cage. It's too funny because it's really hard to get her out but once she's out she doesn't bite. The best way to deal with this is to stick train Aleda if she's not already. That way you can get her out and away from her cage without her biting you.

Our Gracie is the finger un-friendly hen here. Like yours, she settles down for snuggles on her own away from the cage and the boys. She doesn't like hands at all though so I don't provoke her with them ever. She was a rescued bird and we don't know what her history was with hands. All we do know is she is afraid of them.

It is nice to know there is still some sweetness below all the toughness though. She really just *needs (*read: demands) her one-on-one time so she can re-establish her top bird status. Isn't that what all women want?;) :lol

Laura, I think what caused SPIKE to bite was that very unladylike name you gave her!

Janie....Spike may not be a ladylike name but it's fitting none the less. She ain't no sweet Babygirl and the puncture marks on my hands are proof of that :omg: :lol :omg:
