Hi all! I posted recently in another board here that I was thinking about getting a pet quality companion for my female lovie, Widgie. Well, I've decided to go for it. The only problem is that it seems to be hard to track down active breeders right now, particularly ones that sex their birds.

So here goes. I am looking for a pet quality handraised lovebird male, preferably dutch blue or seagreen. If I can choose beyond that, I would choose pied and/or purple, as well as lutino and/or lutino split. This would be a pet bird first, and a potential mate for my female second.

Therefore, I need help finding lovebird babies or adopting an older male within my area. And by area I mean anywhere up to a 3 hour drive from here, possibly more. Also, at this point I might be willing to pay for a couple babies to be sexed if it was between that or having a bird shipped because I feel that would be unnecessarily stressful to the poor animal. I would just want to make sure I was getting a true pet quality bird if I were sexing babies sight unseen.

Suggestions? Places to go? Questions? Thank you!

Some breeders will sex the bird once you pick it out, or charge a fee to do so. Its expensive to do at a vet (my vet charges $80) and roughly $25 to do it through a company where you can send a sample (toenail or blood) through the mail). Males seem like a tough thing to come by, I wish you luck! I would scour craigslist and kijiji and hoobly and even petfinder daily and rarely found a proven DNA's male. I wish you the best of luck!! Keep us posted.
