View Full Version : Zephyr and I Saying Hello
I am a new lovebird owner for the past 10 days. I got Zephyr, a PF, to fill that void in my life and his that I'm sure you all can relate to. He is a handfed bird, about 3 months old, who is tame (I guess) but not trained yet. Right now we're just getting acclimated to each other but I hope to have him become a trained companion. His wings were clipped when I got him and he is doing well so far (Why does it seem that lovebirds are always smiling?). We share the house with
wife, 15 mo baby boy, dog and a nippy headstrong budgie. Iin the past I have had a quaker who I weaned to become the "perfect" bird, a vicious budgie who hated everyone and everything, and a sweet English budgie. Lovebirds are new to me however so I have been reading extensively and look forward to future conversations with everyone. Hello to all.......

Welcome from Missouri.....I had a really mean quaker many years ago, I wished I had know at the time that they could learn to talk and that birds could be let out of their cages with wing trims, etc....hind sight and all....this is a fun and informative board....look forward to getting to know you. My flock has grown considerably this summer and continues to grow. I have printed and read as much as I can about the species I have which are: cockatiels, lovebirds, zebra finches and budgies. I just ordered the "Lovebird Hand Book" by Vera Appleyard and I'm looking forward to the release of a book on genetics that Rubygem told me about so I can understand genetics which has been boggling my mind for a couple of weeks. You will find that lovebirds are comical, entertaining, cute wonderful little characters. I have just gotten my flock to eat foods that are healthier for them than an all seed diet. I've always had budgies, but sadly did not know that they would not live past 4 or 5 on a seed only diet. Thanks to the encouragement from this board I have been successful. Check out the recipe section for some great things to feed your birds.

welcome to the board! I have a 15 month old girl, Eden, and our lovie, Friday, loves to play with her toys. They hang out together, and take turns being jealous of whatever toy the other one has. We'll be looking forward to seeing how your new lovie settles in to the family. :)

Thanks for all the greetings. Right now I am realizing that Zephyr is not really tame, he just doesn't bite me when I hold him. More about that in the taming/behavioral section of the board however. I have enjoyed and benefited from reading everyones past posts and look forward to being part of this community. Oh, and I couldn't imagine letting my 15 mo old son blake loose with Zephyr. He's not so easy on his toys :)
