I'm a newbie who needs advice :(

Hi Everyone,

I was referred here from another message board that I frequent.

I do not have a lovebird, I have a parakeet. He is 12 years old, and I believe that he is sick. I do not have an avian vet near me, and I am trying to locate someone that can help me. I live in the suburbs of NYC, and am having no luck finding an avian vet. Someone recommended a traveling vet, who I placed a call to, but have not heard back from.

If anyone here knows anything about parakeets, and has any suggestions, or could offer advice, I would be forever grateful. Cookie Boy means the world to me, and I will do anything and everything I could do to help him.

There are 2 avian vets listed for your area and there are others in New York. You many have to try several or just be patient for a call back from the vet you called. Have you tried any emergency clinics in your area? Many will at least have a vet that is familiar with birds on staff because there always seem to be birds getting sick after normal vet hours.

None of us are trained professionals on this site and the best we can do is help you find someone who can help. In the meantime, keep your parakeet quiet and warm.

Sure hope you found a vet for your budgie. Come back and visit with us. I have 6 budgies and one baby. Your budgie is 12 years old, that is awesome. I've had budgies over the years and sadly they did not live past 4 or 5 because they were on a seed only diet. There are several people on this board that have budgies and other birds besides lovebirds. Good Luck.
