Hey,
My name is Dawn and I am from BC Canada. I am 20 years old and I work at a pet store. We recently got a couple of handfed lovebirds in to sell from an awesome local breeder. The two we got were obviously very bonded but my dumb a$$ manager sold one to a lady who didnt want both. So there was one left, he or she is a Dutch Blue, he was very skittish and hard to get out of his cage, so everyone just left him alone. That is until I came into work :D I took him out of his cage and let him sit on my shoulder where he was most comfortable, and thats where we fell in love lol.. The breeder came back to check on her birds and saw me interacting with him and she just said "wow, he bonded to you fast" and with that... he was my bird. I love him yet I am very nervous because the last bird I had was a budgie and I was 3 years old! So that is my story of how I got my very first lovebird and how I ended up on this forum. I hope you all dont mind, but I will be asking a lot of really dumb questions :p So...I guess I will see you on the forums :D

Hey Dawn and welcome! :) There is so much good information on this forum and the first place I'd suggest you take a look is at the "Your Attention Please" section.
Your story is very sweet. It's so nice that your little one got to go home with the person he/she bonded to. :)
I'm in Atlanta, GA and have three little lovies. All adorable and all sweet! :D

Hi Dawn....welcome from Missouri.....I must warn you, Lovies are very addictive......if I worked at a pet store I'd probably have a whole lot more!....My name is Paulette and I'm addicted to birds!!!.....LauraO from Hawaii and myself have decided during Saturday night chat that we have a problem because we just keep getting more birds....LOL  ....and admitting it is half the battle or so LauraO says!... ....so,I have 6 lovies, 6 tiels, 7 budgies, and 4 zebra finches. I have converted my birds over to a nice breakfast of brown rice/beans/pasta/scrambled egg/peas/corn. Be sure to check out the recipe section for some home made healthy foods. They say you should never buy a bird because you feel sorry for it.....but who are they anyway?!?......I think it is wonderful. I can't wait to hear more about your lovie. What did you name him?

Hi Dawn,
Welcome to the board, and bless you for taking this little sweetie home. I'm sure he was devastated at loosing his/her mate, and you seem to have given him/her the love that s/he so desperately needed.
I look forward so hearing all about your baby, and do please give us a name so we can refer to your little one that way. Also, please post us some pics when you can, so we can put a face to that name. We all seem to know each other by name, and each others fids(feathered kids) by name, and that makes us more like family :)

Welcome to the board. Lovebirds are very addicting. There are many here who fall to the darkside. I just got over a quarintine for Budgies and the darkside is strong.lol. I have 2 lovebirds,2 budgies,5 cats,5 fish, and a hamster. I have my own zoo. I am currently on the look out for a masked lovebird(darkside got me good and I have money :D ). There is no such thing as a dumb question on here. Unless you ask us how to get the cat to open mouth for lovebird like a lion taming act.lol.
Steph
P.S. We love pictures and have a whole section for them..lol.

Hi Dawn,
Welcome from Atlanta, Georgia USA! I am owned by three lovies - Molly, Daisy & Piper. They are my babies and come first in my life, so don't feel dumb when it comes asking questions about your loved one. We have all had our share of questions too. How long have you had your lovie? Name? and if you need help with a name we have a few good name specialists on the board. Read all you can in the forums and you'll be surprised at information you will find. You just might be the best informed employee at the pet store. See ya around the board! :D

Hi and congratulations on your new little one! Have a look around, there are some great articles on this board. If you don't see what you're looking for, please ask, even if you think it's dumb. I assure you, there is absolutely no such thing as a dumb question. A lot of the things that happen are not in a book anywhere, so the only way you'll know is to ask someone. :)

Hi Dawn
I'm from Canada as Well. Your neighour to the east. (Calgary). I also this summer during the flood in June received 2 love birds that needed a home. I fell in love. I too asked some dumb questions. I sure lurned a lot from this web. The 2 that I took over where only on seeds, so I changed their diet and they seem happier. (penny & parry) When i took them over they came with a nest and 3 eggs penny was sitting on. After a month those eggs did not hatch and she through them out of the nest. they started doing their thing and she laid 2 more eggs. On aug 1 those eggs hatched and now those 2 are growing strong. Penny today is sitting on 5 more eggs.
Go forth and multiply
Welcome

Hey Dawn, I'm your neighbour a little farther east (just outside Winnipeg), and I also work at a petstore (and a veterinary clinic:)). We don't have lovebirds in at the moment, although I own a pair, as well as three budgies, two dogs, two feeder goldfish and over thirty walking sticks. Anyways, I'm glad that you took that little guy home. You're his partner now!

A Birdy Problem? I don't remember that conversation
Dawn: Congrats on finding your lovie friend :D . It's a sweet story. This board is GREAT and the information on it will serve both your lovie and the petstore you work at. I hope to see you around and look forward to hearing more about your lovie.

Hi Dawn,
Congrats on your new addition! I live in Burnaby at the moment and was wondering where's the breeder your little guy came from. In the not so distant future I would like to get another (addicted? no, I know when enough is enough  ).
