Was not sure were to post this so going to put it here.

As many here know my Baggy momma was a non biter til Whisper was 3 months old. Then she was a biter and it was hard bites. her mate died when Whisper he baby was very small. I think the biting might have been part in due to fact when her mate died. I was one who took him from cage and took him away. I think she thought I was going to make her baby disapear. it got to point I thought of giving her to a better home. Thought I was doing something wrong. Well since we got new cage she has not bite me once  . Not even a nibble. Not only that she has learned when i say bedtime it means she is going to cage for bed and hops right in often. She also knows step up means play time(aka chewing my hair..lol). Also drum rolls please..... She let me stroke her head twice :D . i was so happy i started crying.

Also Whisper who lets me only touch her when is her mood let me hold her and help get rid of some lose feather on her head. it has been a wonderful week for me with birds. Now if I can jsut get Budgies to not think I am the  It would be wonderful..lo.

Well Baggy bite me today but was my own darn fault. True to lovebird nature Baggy hates color red clothing on me. I went to get them out of the bed time cage and she bite and held on. Was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt. I held her beak and said no and she let go. No blood but I sure did cry. A lesson to me to remember what I am wearing in bird room. Also to go and find some new sweat shirts..lol. Whisper on other hand liked it and hopped in the hood part..lol

I find i am lucky some days.. more so then others.. when Chance DOESNT bite me  i too thought the red brought out the ummmm biting attitude.. bottom line.. think it is just having "nails" and he loves to bite them!! :omg:

Chance seems to know what the word "NO" is also.. he checks to see if i am watching.. if i turn my head.. he goes at it again.. but the biting from him is just to let me know.. he wants my attention..

i have put him into his tv room cage for a few minutes when he is "testy" and wont behave.. then he comes out of it and runs to my hand and lays down for a rub down.. he then goes to sleep.. only after i rub his head, neck, back.. he just loves being pet and rubbed all over.. strange creature..

i find that if he is on my shoulder he 'nudges' my cheek also.. wants kisses and me to chat.. but with my g'children he might bite them on the face!! 8) i really have to be careful and tell them to talk to him when he is close.. he will not attack then..

oh yeah!!!! when he isnt biting.. his other behaviour is acting like a "stricking snake" :omg: OMG CAN HE RUN !!! :omg:

there is a couple of things i have done to at least TRY to control Chance's biting habit.. i have held his beak.. :D told him no.. put him in a seperate room for a few minutes.. >: trimmed his feathers as a last resort. makes him humble for a while.. :( and that he doesnt like..

well i guess i have rattled on enuf.. !! bird biting comes with the joy of having my "chance" in my life.. he will be the big TWO christmas eve!!!

has anyone else been able to "potty train" your bird? i tell "Chance" to go "poopee" and  people are amazed and  when they see him do as i say!! usually when his pitch gets a bit too LOUD  is a tell-tell sign.. :D also been working with him for near two years has helped too.. i know his habits..

Lady..My birds have never pooped on me. They will fly back to cage to do it. I never trained them. Baggy has never pottied on me since I got her and Whisper did once when she was 3 wks old.lol.

Baggy rarely gives me any signs she will bite. Only times she does is when I an removing her from cage sometimes she mock bites. I normaly let her come to cage door and I offer her my arm..never my finger. Whisper on otehr hand gets fingers offered.

Steph

P.S. They like mommy in pigtails they were riding on them today..lol

Congratulations Steph!!!...that is wonderful....and a great step in the right direction.....I think this also means they love their new cage.....there will always be some biting somewhere, sometime.....but a new house makes everybody happy. :D Don't give up on the budgies even if they never become tame I just think they are a joy to listen to and watch, my male Amarillo hangs upside down everynight from the roof of the cage when it's bed time...I read that they will do that and it is common among budgies, but in all my years of having them....I've never had one that did that. They will get more tame with out of the cage time.....I always keep wings clipped, the budgies are so quick. I'm glad you are having fun with your birds again.

well you are really lucky,., chance has pooped on me..well actually he backed up and had his tail hanging over.. does having him since he was two days old make a difference? i also had cut his wings until the last few months so he can now take flight in the house.. maybe if i never cut his wings he wouldve flown into his cage.. hmmmm

chance has been doing more flying to his cage.. to me.. across the furniture.. everywhere he "measures" ((you can see his little head bobbing)) the distance..

i dont put my hand INTO his bedroom cage.. :omg: i just open the door and he comes out to me.. i also learned that one of his day cages.. he can open.. 8) so i have to be careful when i leave the home..i have to lock it so he cannot get out.. and surprise any of the cats.. or dogs.. !!!!

I think I would have to post a big sign on the door that reminds me to make sure that birdies are locked up and safe!! I have a green springy thing to hang my keys on my front door knob, so a sign would work for me.... :)
