Okay! This is a quick story about a bite deserved like none other :x ............Yesterday I was messing around with the birds. I put Koa (Baby Meyer's) upstairs on the birdy playgym in the birdroom. I then went downstairs real quick to get their food and I came back up. Once everything was situated I was going to get Koa and then come back down stairs and spend some time with him. So I put my finger down for him to step up and he bit me: kinda hard  . I was shocked, and mad, because he's never bitten me outside of nibbling. So I put my finger back down and told him to step up in a firm voice. He backed away from my finger but I persistantly pushed it forward until he lashed out and bit me hard. He didn't break the skin, but my finger was blue and in pain >: >:.

So now I'm really peaved and really confused so I get a stick to get him to step up and put him in his cage. Well after I finally get him on the stick I go down to touch his beak and he freaks out and flies off the stick. FINALLY I realize this is not Koa!!! Cookie had managed to sneak upstairs and I didn't realize it 8o 8o

If you know Cookie and how frightened he is of hands and his history of lashing out at those dastardly digits, you would understand what a stupid move/s I made. When I finally realized it was him I got him back on the stick and sweetly and profusely apologized to the poor guy. I obviously scared him and he was probably just as confused by the whole thing as I was. I just wasn't expecting him upstairs as he's only managed to make it up there once since we clipped his wings a couple of months ago.

In the end, I was just thankful Cookie didn't tear my finger apart like I know he could :x :x .

LOL,

Sorry Laura, but it is a leeeetle funny

Guess you are gonna have to tie a ribbon around one of them so you can tell em apart

Sorry for the laughter, cause I know your finger is throbbing. Betha will be looking at them a little more closely in the future before poking out that finger ;)

:) Been there, done that, Laura!
Dao and Georgia are almost identical and, as you know, I have the utmost respect for what Georgia can do if I'm not careful! I've learned to look very carefully at the macaw I want to mess with before I engage any body parts into that endeavor! Georgia's eyes are darker than Dao's so you know I look before I act! It's only a mistake you will make once............

OUCH! I think that's one reason I don't have any birds who look alike. I could never tell them apart. I'd be a bad mommy if I had ever had children and had twins. I would be the one going back to the hospital to ask which one was which :lol Hope your finger heals quickly Laura. :)

When I read Laura's post I was thinking, "this sounds like something Linda posted awhile back".

That's gotta smart, not one but two nasty bites. At least it didn't break the skin.

No problem. I had to laugh myself. The funniest part is that Koa and Cookie don't look as alike as you would think. Not only is Koa smaller, but he has these big baby eyes and a lot of yellow feathers on his wing that Cookie doesn't have. I just wasn't paying no mind to where I was sticking my finger. I'm lucky I still have it

Yes, I echo all of this. I could never have two lovies that look alike, let alone big birds that can take a finger off. :shock

OUCH!

Laura, I'm sorry about your bite!

I have had my 3 lovies out at once to play with me, and have accidentally offered my hand to the WRONG bird. I realized it in time to stop and dodge! :omg:

it's a good reminder that we constantly need to keep our minds on our birds... or they'll let us know!!!
