Hey all. It's a long story as to why I have a whiteface violet lovebird right now, but the sad story is that I am needing to find him a new home already. I've had some extreme health problems lately that have had me staying at my parents' house quite a bit, and so far in this two weeks of illness - the doctors have not been able to find the cause, except that one of them gave me a medication that almost put me in a coma... It's making it difficult to care for my other four lovebirds already. :( Unfortunately, I acquired the new lovebird not even a few days before my problems got really serious.

He is such a beautiful lovebird. Here are a few photos I took:

He is a surgically sexed male, five months old. The sweetest bird. He would make the best family pet. He doesn't step up yet, but he doesn't bite and lets you pick him up really easily. As soon as you open the door to his cage, he pretty much runs right out to you.

Also, I had bought a large cage at a bird fair relatively inexpensively and now will not have a use for it. If anyone is interested in the cage, it is about 35 tall X 32 wide X 21 inches deep. It is 62 inches tall with its stand. Very big.

The prices on both are negotiable.

I'm located in Kenosha, WI - the most southeastern part of the state. I am right close to the border of Illinois too. If anybody is interested or knows of someone who might be, let me know. Thanks.

Yikes, Joanie.....that's MY Shy!!!! Beautiful little one.

I'm sorry to hear about your health issues and hope you're feeling much better soon. Hopefully someone close by will contact you about this precious little bird. My boys are just 6 months old (Big Boi turned yesterday and Shy, tomorrow) and it's such a fun age.

Joanie,

Sorry to hear about your health problems. I will pray they find the cause and you will be on the road to recovery soon.

I wish I were closer, I would take you up on the offer. I'm not sure what members we have in your area except for Robin, but hopefully someone will be close enough to take this gorgeous little sweetie pie.

Let us know how you are doing, and of course what's going on with the W/F baby too.

I'm so sorry you haven't been feeling well. I hope they find out what's wrong soon. I'll keep you in my thoughts & prayers.

I too wish I were closer. You know I can't have just one, or two, or... :lol He's really beautiful.

Hi Joanie;

I hope the drs find the source of your problems soon. It's very frustrating to go through testing, etc., and not find a cause. Then again, some things are only diagnosed by ruling out other things first.

Regarding your gorgeous little bird, maybe Robin can get you contact information for a bird club or two.

Best wishes,

Joanie Noel

Hi Joanie,
I had some people from the Marshfield area contact me in search of a bird and they may be interested. I will forward the links to your pics to them. It'd be quite a drive and I don't know how far they're willing to travel but it's worth a shot.

I sure hope you're feeling better soon. Sometimes a second opinion is well worth the trip.

He's very pretty. Looks like double violet and a dark factor too. I'm sorry you're feeling the need to give him up. I will tell them to mention me if they contact you.

I wish I had more contacts in your area but I really don't. I'm from the central part of the state.

Purple Birdie went to his new home yesterday. :) A family from my church came to see him. They have a 3-year-old daughter who was unbelievably cute... She loves animals and absolutely loved this bird. We taught her how to hold him gently and she was kissing him. :) The cutest thing was when her dad picked up the cage, she started crying and said, "Noooo, birdie has to stay here!" So we asked her, "How come honey, don't you want the birdie?" And she said, "No he has to be with the other birdies." She didn't want him to be lonely. :) Too cute. But they're going to take good care of him so I'm happy. Just wanted to give an update!

Joanie,
Thanks for the update. I'm glad you found a good home and one close enough that you can check to see how they're doing.

Some people might argue that 3yrs old is too young to have a bird in the house but my daughter started helping me with my lovebird babies (with TONS of supervision) when she was 3. If taught how to be gentle and supervised well, it should be ok. You already know she has the proper sensitivity to how the bird is feeling. Empathy is an important quality when it comes to pets and it sounds like it's present in this situation.

Hope things are improving for you as well,

I am very glad you found him a home. My children help me with the birds also. It is good teaching them at a young age. I hope your feeling better and can enjoy your birds you have with you.
