Do any of your birds chew on your clothes? I don't mean a nibble here or there while balancing. I mean a conscious effort to CHEW and chomp on seems, lettering, and (most irritating) the cuffs on the ends of sleeves >: . Kameko keeps chewing on my clothes, she did it when she was younger a lot too but then after constantly moving her away and saying "NO!" she didn't do it quite as much. But she is doing it again and it is driving me crazy. She puts hole in my shirts, chews on the cuffs of my long sleeve shirts or hoodies and while doing it she gets my skin. Is there any way to get her to stop doing this before i have no nice clothes left or i go completely crazy... which ever comes first. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Yup. I have shirts just for bird room that have holes. I have learned to live with it most times..lol. I just be sure they never eat threads.

Yea, most people who have chewy birds have a bird shirt that they wear when the birds are out. Mine only seem to chew on my cloths when there are more than one of them on me. Imagine eight birdies all chewing merrily on your shirt. I live in rags, but my birdies are happy.

Im missing a diamond earring from one ear and the balls from my hoops in my other ear do to a chewing bird! The funny thing is I didnt realize it had done all of this till I looked in the mirror that night :)

Same problem here. Blu is a chewer. She started the day I clipped her wings. She ruined a really nice sweater that was given to me. I now have a birdy sweater as well. It's wool and has all these little fibers that sticks out. She has a wonderful time pulling on the fibers now instead of making holes. But no worries, this is now her sweater that I am borrowing for her sole pleasure. ;)

YES!!!! :lol All three of mine do chew on my clothing (and belts, shoes, body parts) and even my "perfect" bird, Oliver, has quietly chewed holes in 4 of my favorite t-shirts! He does it in a way that I have no idea he's doing it till I go to take it off! Usually when I'm on the computer and not paying attention to what he's doing! :D Oliver has never chewed on my body parts or earrings but when I have Big Boi on me, the first thing I do is remove my earrings....before HE does! :lol

Yep, chewed clothes is the new fashion, didn't you know? :lol They are just like 2 yr olds. They can find the most unsuspecting things and you will wonder "How'd that happen?" or "Where'd that come from?" or How'd you get that?". Ya gotta love 'em :D

Oh yeah. Several shirts are ventilated. I don't wear clothes I really like when the lovebirds are out, and no jewelry at all! Gold is way too soft compared to their beak power.

Do their bites get stronger as they get older cuz Hukituki constantly chews on my zippers and zipper pulls but has never done any damage. He is 4 months old and can chomp hard when he wants to.

Lara, good question! I know that Big Boi (just over 7 months) could draw blood at three months old and his bites, which I like to refer to as "heavy beak pressure", :lol, are no stronger now than they were a few months ago. Matter of fact, he's biting far less than he did a few months ago. If he gets on a biting roll, he goes back to the cage and in his case, he hates to go back to the cage.

Big Boi's brother, Shy, nibbles on my earrings and sometimes Oliver does, too, but they don't nibble hard. Never have. Some do and some don't. Hard to say how much that changes with age.

:

I am using the same strategy and it is starting to work...half way to his cage he will let go in a last ditch appeal for a reprieve .:p

Everyday I come home from work, I remove ALL jewelry and my work clothes. I put on an old t-shirt and lounge pants and the birds and I spend the rest of the evening together until their bedtime at 7 pm. I'm lucky I've never lost an earring. Molly likes to play with my watch and pulls out the stem. I never have the right time on my watch because of Molly >o Oh, well!

My pair do not chew on my clothes but they manage to damage them just the same. They go in my shirt and claw my clothes with their little feet, leaving all kinds of holes.

Much to my surprise and dismay, I found out recently that Oliver's favorite "chew toy" is my hair. My hairdresser told me a few weeks ago that he has managed to chew over an INCH off a large section of my hair! I knew that something wasn't right on one side of my hair and could not figure out what was going on. She told me that I have to STOP him from preening my hair....yeah right, that's really going to happen! She doesn't understand that I AM his mate and he's just trying to do the mately thing with me! :D He's had a little favorite patch that he's preened for a long time but seems like he's moved way on from that and now claims a much larger favorite patch! :lol I can't believe I'm laughing...it's my HAIR! I would kill a child of mine for doing that!

Ditto seems to love to eat cotton. T-shirts, sock fuzzies doesn't matter he'll nibble it.

I only wear old t-shirts when he's out with me.

If I ever see a bald spot in your head I wont have to wonder why ;)

Heheheh, mine chew on my hair, as well, but I haven't noticed any large patches gone...maybe I should look more closely...

If Laharl is just on me, then he won't chew. If Etna is also on me, she'll chew away on my hair, sweater, neck, cheek and what have you. Laharl then follows suit. Etna is the 'bad' bird of the bunch, getting everyone else into trouble. She sometimes bites a little harder, too. But worse of all are the 'presents' they leave all over the back of my shirt and chair. I need to make a birdie shawl. :( As for the budgies, Buddy will sometimes chew my hair, but he'd rather just sit on my shoulder. Sunny and Penny are still developing a bond with me, so I can't really say what they'd do, although they don't seem like the chewy bird type.

My birds can remove the gemstone from an earring with more precision and efficiently than a thoracic surgeon can wield a scalpel.

I am done wearing jewels around my flock.

I used to have studs for earrings but when i first got Kameko she pulled my earrings out and had to forcibly remove it from her beak before she swallowed it. She gave a a big scare and so since then i only wear small hoops that she absolutly can't pull off (without detatching my earlope which i think i would notice). I think i will just conceed like the rest of you and try to wear clothes that she can destroy all the wants. It still drives me crazy, but i'll have to live with it.
Kameko hasn't been a big hair chewer which is nice, but she likes to hide in my ponytail and chew on the elastic.

Sam used to like hiding in down my shirts. She also like to chew peeping holes. Sometimes these holes were not conveniently located at all. It can be very embarrasing if you don't notice before you leave the house>o
