Both of my birds have bitten and drawn blood, but this one is new to me: Little Miss Melody bit me - HARD - at the vet's office last week. She didn't draw blood (that time, anyway) but she left a little bruise. That was like 4 days ago and the bruise is still there!
I think I remember another member saying that her bird was biting her on the legs and leaving bruises, but my memory is not that good.

Those are the most painful types of bites, I find. Etna isn't finger tame, so whenever I want to give her a wing clip, she usually bites hard like your Melody did and leaves me with multiple bruises. The only way I can distract her from my fingers is to offer a piece of spray millet. I'm sorry Melody bit you. I know how much it hurts (both phyically and mentally).

Yes, I know those bites. To me they hurt worse then the blood drawing ones. Baggy has given me a few on the face before. My hands are sporting 2 right now(but oe was my fault).I hate to see if I wore short around them.

Jennifer,
The bites I get that bruise are the bite and twist bite. It's not a hard bite, but a nip with a twist, OUCH!!!!!!
I've never gotten a "twisting" bite before... ( ***knock on wood*** )
What about the bite that's not really a bite? Mikey will look like he's preening me, but it's like someone with long finger nails pinching the skin! Mikey's bites are always quick chomps. I've heard of lovies locking on when they bite.... scary!!!! :omg:
Getting bitten can be discouraging.... I've been bitten by every Green Cheek conure I've met so far... And the last one left a "love" mark on my thumb. I'm still wanting one!
I think getting bitten is just part of living with birds. One of my newly adopted zebra finch broke skin yesterday. ( I noticed my female has a bald neck and was checking for signs of mites or wounds ). I'm more afraid of them than Mikey! Sorry you got the short end of the stick...>o

:D, yes, I do, too!!!! Oliver does not bite and I think that I hesitated getting another bird (or two, :D) because I did not want to get bitten! Well heck, it's not so bad and I'm learning to live with it thanks to Big Boi. He's bitten me and drawn blood and he's left many bruises on my arm but, I'm still standing! :lol

I have had Kameko hanging off my lip, does that count as locking? Luckily Kameko hasn't figured out the bite and twist. I can imagine it is like a bird's version of an indian burn. Ouch  . The most recent mark left from a bite is from when she chomped my lip and left a half inch cut just above my lip >: . Now that one hurt!!!

Yes. And the only thing worse than that is when you have one hanging off the side of your nose, kicking you in the face while he tries to get his footing.

 :lol  :D  :lol  Thats so funny. Yeah, I've had that done to me too. Water pouring out of your eyes as you try and get them to unlatch. It is funny to think back at it, definately not funny at the time. :D

Yep
Those nose bites will bring tears to your eyes. My GCC got hold of my lip once. My fault though as he was in his cage and I was going to give him a kiss between the bars. I got a kiss alright, he had my lip, I was stuck to the cage, and it was a stand off as to who was going to give in. Last time I give him a kiss in the cage:eek:

Yep, that sweet innocent looking Cappie gave Mama a fat lip:evil: He is a cutie pie though, and for the most part, very loving. He does however have nippy moments, but I understood that going in when I got him, so I was somewhat prepared for the bites along the way. The lip thing really was my fault, as I know he doesn't like fingers and such stuck into his cage. I guess I just thought a kiss would be alright. Now I know:rolleyes:

Mindy does the bite and twist. I blow in her face when she does this and she stops. It's very rare but it does happen and only when she is in hen mode do these bites take place.

Last year when I met Cookie (friend's lovebird) she cuddled inside my sleeve. For no reason at all she turn around, walkedup the arm and bit on her way up. Leaving a trail of 5 very decent bruises along my arm.:lol Lesson learned: Don't let birds you don't know up your sleeve.
Seriously, I feel for you. I know it's painful and insulting at the same time. Oh! And those bruises stays forever! :lol
