Well I got it good last night and I wasn't lucky enough to get it from a lovebird:rolleyes: . We have a rescue Meyer's parrot named Cookie. He is completely hands off but can travel by stick and loves kisses. The thing about his kisses is you have to be careful cause he moves his beak up and down while kissing and will bite if he gets overly excited (he's not mean and doesn't mean to hurt anyone). WELL last night I kissed his back and when he turned around I went to kiss his beak and..............CHOMP! I got a big black beak bite right in the middle of my upper lip. YEP! It hurt bad! YEP! It bled and YEP! I got a fat lip. The funniest thing is it looks like my lip is pierced because there is a puncture wound on the outside and the inside part of my lip. In fact, my husband suggeted I go ahead and put a ring in it8o 8o. He's just happy cause this is the first time Cookie got me good and he's been bit several times by Cookie.
Anyway, all that keeps flashing through my head is the bird talk magazine issue that was mentioning Meyer's (Poicephelus) have a harder and stronger beak relative to their size:x . I guess I should be thankful he didn't take my entire lip off:blush: .
Am I mad? Nope! This bite was my fault and all I did after he bit was to put him down and tend to my lip. Will I still give him kisses? YEP! I love Cookie. Even though he is hands off he is a very sweet bird with a great personity. Of course, I wish he would quit chewing on our house:eek: .

I'm sorry Laura, but I really have to laugh about that. :lol :lol Why is it that the person that seems to be the target for more bites, is so pleased when someone else gets one?
Thos eblack beaks are meant for business...I know, Ripley the Senegal used his well on me for a while.
Sorry about the bite....ouch!

Laura,
I will commisserate with you, as Cappie pierced my lip good too. Like Cookie, I don't think he really meant to hurt me, but never the less it hurt like *@#*!!!!. He doesn't get kisses through the cage bars any more:rolleyes:
Put some ice on that lip. It does help.

Laura,
So sorry about your lip! But it is funny :lol ! I only say that because I've been there . . . not my lip, buy my nose! My CAG who is NEVER mean or never bites me hard, clamped my nose last week! The funny thing is, I was reading her body language and knew she wasn't in the mood for kisses, but I ignored her and tried to play around anyway. Sure enough . . . CHOMP . . . I tried not to react, but my eyes were watering! I just placed her back on her perch and asked my daughter if I was bleeding :D ! I could use a nosejob, but NOT from Lucky  ! Lucky's been on Baytril the past week (for the first time), and she's not been too happy about getting her meds . . . however, I tried to give her a kissy too soon after, and she let me know she was in a mood! Really . . . it wasn't that hard . . . and no blood . . . just hurt like heck! Can you imagine what a CAG (or any other bird for that matter) could really do if they wanted too??

Laura, somehow "funniest thing" and the rest of that sentence do not go together! :lol
I am sorry for you. Yes, better you than me....heck, better anybody than me....but still, I know how good you are to your birdies and even though it's not Cookies fault (nice of you to say that!, :D) it still hurts like an SOB! I think a lovie size beak is my limit! :D

I am scared of big beaks. Don't think i would go in for kisses on one of those... who am i kidding... yes i would. BUT... the thought of a beak bigger than a lovies would hurt like a *&%$#@. I have only had one experience where Kameko chomped on my lip and gave me a nice cut. That was a little difficult to explain to non bird friends. I am sure Cookie didn't get the blame for that one... I'm sure it was an accident .
Oh Im scared of big beaks too! That's why I didn't want lovies at first because I was scared of their beaks!! They have only nibbled at me, its my cockatiel that got me one day, while we were trimming her nails. The baby lovies have some sharp little beaks! But they are so dang cute, you can't be upset that you get nipped by them.

I'm scared of big beaks too, but I've gotten used to them. When we first got Cookie I was terrified but as time went I got more adjusted. It's been even harder with Mijo my CAG. He not only has a bigger beak, but is about 4 years old, will bite hard, but also likes to nibble and play nice. It's been a real trust thing with him and a few times I've had to brace myself just to see if he means to bite or not. His favorite thing to do is to make an attack motion, like he's going to bite mean, if he knows a person is skittish, but if you dont move he just bangs his beak against the skin lightly. So the purpose is not to hurt anyone, but to dominate and laugh at us flinching. When he has bitten me good it's been very quick, hard and bloody.
My lip is scabbing up nicely:rolleyes: . It's been great fun telling everyone where I got the big scabby lip from because they all make funny cringing noises   .

Ditto does something similar. He likes to fly at people right toward their faces. If you don't duck (kind of hard to do since he's aiming right between your eyes) he'll either land on your head or shoulder. However if you do duck he'll circle back, stand on top of his cage and yell at you. Then he'll come at you again, stopping about 6 inches in front of your face, hover there for a few seconds while you duck and fly back to his cage and yap at you some more (laughing most likely). He did that to my friend Eric for about 15 minutes one day. :lol

LauraO....you are one brave bird girl. I consider myself pretty tough, but I don't know about them big birds. My tiel Buck bites my lips when I'm kissing him...because I go MMMMMuuuuaaaa Kiss and I tell him Kiss... and he tries to do it back he bites me lightly and makes a kiss noise. Yes, you are one brave girl. Blistex chapstick in the dark blue tube and lots of it my friend. Hope it heals fast.;)

OK i may have read this wrong but if you don't move he lightly bangs his beak on you, but what does he do if you do move  ? I can honestly say that i would try my best to get out of the way of a bird who looks like he is going to eat a piece of my face :lol . But Mijo sure sounds like a character and i am sure he is a blast, i would just be a little timid.

I'm sorry about your lip, Laura! I haven't been bitten on the lip...yet...but I have been bitten on the end of the nose! Alas, it was only by my english budgie, but he took quite a large chunk out, which left a mark for weeks.

Ditto likes to bite the area between the nostrils. Not hard just enough to get your attention. Or he'll pluck a rogue nosehair.

Well if you do move he bites harder and harder until you move him away from the situation. Yesterday he did that with my foot. I flinched a little and he bit at it hard. I flinched again because I was busy doing something so I naturally moved again, In all, I flinched like three times and he bit me harder everytime. I finally stopped what I was doing, made him step up and removed him from the situation:x .
