Raising my voice and giving a dirty look actually works!

I have two lovebirds, one is hand shy (Lily), one loves to bite hands (PP)!

After putting them to bed, I usually scratch PP bird's head, and sometimes Lily's if she'll let me that night.

Lily has been getting more used to the routine, and occasionally let me give her a scratch or two before hopping away, whereas PP usually nips my fingers before actually letting me scratch her head.

Lately, I dunno whether or not it's due to spring time hormone, her going through her first full molt, or because she's going through her terrible 2s stage, her bites are getting more frequent and much harder. She even bites when I'm hanging a piece of millet up! I KNOW she's just testing out her limits at time as well!!

I'm pretty soft spoken and it takes a LOT for me to raise my voice let alone give a dirty look, especially to something as precious as my lovie!

However, today I just had enough of her giving me bloody manicures, so before she even clamped down, I yelled at her with a firm "NO BITE! and gave her a dirty look. She didn't clamp, but rather gave me that wide eye stare! She tried to bite me again, and I gave her the same reaction!

In the end, she didn't even CLAMP down! And I was able to give her her bedtime headscratch with my finger still intact!!!

FINALLY!!! First time EVER in what? 5 Months?! lol.

Hopefully, the novelty won't wear off and this will continue to work, although there is no guarantee. I have a very favorite line from The Karate Kid, part 1 and I can always apply it to handling/dealing with my fids. "Best defense no be there!" I tend to protect my digits to the very best of my ability, as red tends to clash with my lighter skin coloring! :)
