Does anyone know of a breeder in Ontario that has any of the Fischer types of Lovies? My little Dickie needs a friend. Also can you put two females or two males together or is it better to have one of each. I don't want to breed but I'm not sure if Dicky is a he or she. Thanks JoJo

Where about do you live? I am in Northern Ontario. I just bought a violet Fischer from a breeder in my city. I think she has 2 left.

As far as what sex to get I would get your current bird DNA'd to find out what sex it is, if you don't want them to breed and you have a male then I would get another male, if you have a female it's a little tricky because I have read that it is less likely for two females to get along, you could get a male and just boil any eggs to prevent them from hatching, (boil them as they are layed and then let the hen sit on them until she abandons them), but I have also read that the male should be the same age or older as the female, but maybe someone with more experience could chime in with better info.

Also don't forget to quarantine the new bird, and be aware that it is possible that regardless of the sex, some birds just can't get along, so you may have to be prepared to have them housed separately for life if they don't get along.

Thanks for the info! I really hope that they do get along because I just bought this huge beautiful wrought iron cage and Dicky looks very tiny in there all by himself.
