Hi, I'm new to this board and hope I can find some good advise on what to do with/for my Fisher Lovebird. An ex-neighbor gave her to me because she didn't have time to take care of her. Some days the poor bird didn't even have her cage uncovered. I had a cockatiel and parakeet when I took her in. I found that I just love her personality. But her aggressiveness to the other two birds was frightful. The cockatiel has lost 2 and 1/2 toes thanks to Cherrie. Then my darling Lovebird started picking everything in the house apart which I found out she was using to build nests. I wanted to get a companion lovebird to go with her so I could keep her in her cage and prevent her from tearing up my house any further, but was told because of her aggressiveness she would probably kill another lovebird. Then I thought that since she lays eggs several times a year perhaps I could purchase a fertile Lovebird egg and let her hatch it and in that way she might accept it as her own and it will become a companion for her.
Please give me advise on this. If she could hatch out an egg where would I purchase it at?
Thanks for your help.

Hi and welcome to our community!
Sounds like you have a hen, all right, but since you've not had eggs up until now, I can only say that it sounds like you have a hen.
Purchasing a fertile egg for your lovie to hatch is not a good idea. There are a lot of reasons behind that statement but I could write a book as to why not. Most breeders will not sell eggs, and understandably so.
I would DNA sex your bird first so you can be sure you have a female. Then I would start looking for an older male. She would most likely kill a younger one but a mature one might be a different story. You would need to observe 30 day quarantine and introduce them by having them in side by side cages. She may accept him or she may not accept him. Hard to say.
Do you have any pictures of her?

I don't have any current photo of her but I know she is a female because she lays from 2-5 eggs twice a year. So the eggs she is sitting on right now I should get rid of and think about buying a mature male and keep in a cage next to her's until she can act civil towards him. I'd like to try that. I had offerred to give her to the Oakland Zoo in California as they have a large aviar full of just Fisher Lovebirds but they told me they had too many already. I really love her but want to make her happy and I know she isn't happy right now without a mate. Thanks for the advise.
