Default May have a chance to get 2 lovies....

As you probably have read, I lost my Lucky a week ago on Sunday past. I was devastated and still feel really badly. Altho I have now put an inquiry into getting two lovies which were advertsed and who are 6 months old and hand tamed. I am teetering on the fence as I am still feeling so bad about Lucky. (and to be honest, feel I would be doing her a dishonor by filling my void so soon after she passed). I don't know, maybe I'm just being silly about it.....has anyone else done this same thing......replace the love so quickly?

Well----I kinda did----only it wasn't my cockatiel that died---it was my parent's and my brother's, but I had a chance for a while to stay with my parents and got to know this little guy, and just fell in love! When he got sick and died it was the saddest thing----no bird could ever replace him, but I knew I wanted to get one, so a month later I ended up getting my little male normal grey----just like my parent's tiel! I know it's different, because it wasn't my bird, but I still felt the same hurt and sadness, and I just felt this urge to get a tiel after. I guess I felt like there is another bird out there that needs a good home---- and your love for Lucky won't change by getting another lovie----also no other bird will replace him----BUT getting another can really help sometimes. It will always be very obvious to you that you aren't replacing Lucky because any new bird you get will not be like him----they all have their own little ways! In my opinion, it is quite ok to get another lovie so soon, as long as you feel ok with it. It won't take away how much you miss Lucky----but it can help make you feel a little better and you'll be giving some other lucky birdie a good loving home who needs one.

I think that it depends upon the individual.

I lost Beetle in late August and then Cricket, my rabbit, in mid-September. In the meantime, I had planned a trip to Vegas in Oct and one to FL in November. I decided to take a break from animal responsibilities (avian or otherwise) for the time being back then... which I then extended through the holidays and now, however many months later, until after Memorial Day (going to Vegas again).

Don't get me wrong: I've come close MANY times. Between my trips last fall I was close to getting a 'tiel at one store and a lovie at another. Both birds seemed REALLY interested in me but there was something in my heart telling me to wait. So I listened... Now, a good friend of mine had to put her cat to sleep after it was diagnosed w/ terminal cancer (she had opted for some radical treatment options but even they couldn't prolong the cat's life). She had a pair of kittens home with her within days of putting her cat to sleep... and it's worked out well.

What I'm trying to say is EVERYONE is different. You're certainly not trying to replace Lucky. Lucky was as unique and precious as you are, and you certainly aren't replaceable, right? However, there is a void caused by his loss and if you think that you are able to open your home AND heart to a new bird (or pair of birds), it is certainly worth considering.

    I wish you the best!

I also had a situation where boos lover sugarbaby died and after watching boo so sad i had to find her company but for my own heart i made sure the new addition was a different color etc and that is how i got sunshine and i would do it again!
Just my 2 cents if your heart is full of sadness it shows you are a careing and loveing fid mother and there are so many sad and lonely lovies out there who need GOOD homes and LOVEVING fid parents.
....Two little birds were on my doorstep, singing sweet songs in a melody pure and true.....
