Yeah, this is definitely miscellaneous.

I was reading a book review: "Made for Each Other: The Biology of the Human Animal Bond" Meg Daley Olmert, Sid Perkins Da Capo Press, 2009.

Her research has found that there is a definite neurochemical benefit that floods our bloodstream when we stroke a pet. The benefit is that when oxytocin is released, we feel calm and peaceful. Pet owners as a group tend to fare better emotionally and physically than do people who aren't pet owners. People who don't have pets tend to be nervous and depressed.

That's why I love Juanita and Petey and need frequent beak kisses from Juanita! I'm hooked on oxytocin!

Does that mean you shouldn't kiss your birdies when you're pregnant?

LOL- that's what they give you to speed up your contractions. Funny how the body works, and the chemicals it produces.

I know the other one they give is pitocin right? It's been SO long since my babies were born.

I didn't think of piggy-backing oxytocin producing activities. Even if one did live daringly, thankfully this chemical has a calming effect. Um, except for birthing--not calming.
