    Default Wondering About Beak Colour

Just wondering at what age does the black on the beak go away?

I got my little Amaretto almost two weeks ago and it seems to be fading.

Also, at what age do they have their first molt? Is it 4-6 months?

What happens when they molt - is it just getting new feathers?

Do they change in colour slightly?

Hi and welcome to Lovebirds Plus Community!
Just wondering at what age does the black on the beak go away?
When Peachfaced Lovebirds are young, the black splotch on the beak begins to fade at about 12 weeks (3 months) and fades from top to bottom. The adult color is horn colored.

The first molt begins right at 16 weeks (4 months) and it's usually complete by the time they are 6 months old. At first, you will notice what appears to be "freckles" of new color in the brow area. What's happening is they are getting adult feathering and the change is usually pretty dramatic with Peachfaced species. With Green Peachface, the rose color brow and bib go from pale rose color to vibrant reddish peach. When molting, frequent baths will help the new feathering come in better, as the water will cause the lovebird to preen and remove the keritan covering that protects the new feather.
