Thread: Bands

Etna managed to pry her leg band open enough for it to slip down, catching one of her toes. As soon as I noticed this, I had someone help me pry the band the rest of the way open, so I could slip it off of her. I was always somewhat paranoid of leg bands, and this incident has made me even more so. I doubt that I will ever be banding any babies my lovies have, as this could have turned into a disaster. I realize that banding can be beneficial, but I think the cons outweigh the pros, even if the number of birds who are likely to bother their band are few and far between.

Open bands can be very dangerous, especially with lovebirds and Quakers that have very strong beaks. Most breeders only use closed bands. We only use closed bands, that cannot be removed by a busy beak.
Glad you caught Etna's open band before something happened.
