    Default I just COULDN'T help myself...long story

I went looking for an acrylic bird house (there is a pic of one in Christine's photo album). I went to one store which didn't have any, but they had a pair of REALLLLY PRETTY lovies. I actually thought they looked like Christine's lovie Windy...but this one has more of a greyish color, and what I think is a violet coloring.

Soooo, I decided that I wanted this lovie. This lovebird is NOT as young as Little Chicken, in fact it's over 3 months old...thank goodness. (Tomorrow she will come home with me).

I picked up 3 nice new cages (on sale) at a different store. (no more guillotine style cages for me).

Apparently the new birdie is a girl...goodness.

I don't know what it is with breeders in my city, but they all believe that pelvic exams are reliable....as far as I have ever read (and you guys have said), they're not. (at least this time I am getting all the personal information of the breeder).

I am running out of rooms for segregation. My hands are raw from washing them so much...but it is all worth it.

Next adventure will be when I get to take out Kiko and Touki's nest box, then take all 4 to the vets...it might actually be smarter to do 2 trips with 2 birds each time...any suggestions?

And NO MORE GIRLS....now I just need some boys.

I should tell you all that I have enough time on my hands to devote almost ALL my time on my lovebirds (my dogs get some attention...usually...no stay away from the birdie...lol). I have been off work for more than 3 years, and this is keeping me occupied and making me very happy. So THANK YOU all for being so helpful, as I rely on this forum for all the CORRECT answers.

Congrats on the new addition! I'm sorry you couldn't find your acrylic house, but looks like you found something better.

If your new lovie looks more greyish than my Windy, then she probably does have a violet factor. I've read that adding a violet factor to a slate lovie will make it look more grey (rather than greenish-grey), and all the pictures I have seen of violet factor slates tend to support this theory.

Definitely can't wait to see pics! In a way, it might end up working out very nicely having two new ones that are about the same age. There's no guarentees that they will get along, but hopefully they will, and will have each other to play with in case the older two do not accept them at first.

My, having four hens in the house...I think you might have your hands full there. Of course, they may actually be wrong about this one, since I don't think pelvic testing is 100% reliable. You may just have a boy; are you going to get a DNA test done?

Good luck and can't wait for updates!

Oh, and I know what you mean about your lovies providing happiness in your life. I'm pretty much a stay-at-home mom myself. I work in the tax field, so I do work during tax season, and during other, sporatic times during the year, but most of the time I don't work, so my lovies (as well as my other birds) keep me company and are so much fun to have. They don't call them lovies for nothing- they are incredibly lovable!

    Susan,

That lovie bug sure bit you hard Congrats on the new little one, and yep, don't forget the pics

The vet trip depends on how well all get along. If you can take two carriers with two birds in each, and they are alright with that, that's what I would do. Of course my avian vet is a good 45 minute drive, so I take in my two lovies in one carrier, and my GCC in another. I also get a discount for multiple pets, so ask your vet about that also. It's only 10%, but I take all I can get

    And how!

I don't know how I've managed to put off getting another lovie for so long. My resistance is starting to weaken

Can't wait to see pics of the new addition, Susan!

When the women at the store asked for my name I answered, sucker...yep that's what I am.

Instead of taking just one home, I felt so bad I took them both. I had the one I wanted out of the cage, and her mate was pacing and squeaking, it almost made me cry....so sucker I am.

They are INCREDIBLY friendly and so pretty. The 3 birds I have all were scared the first 1 or 2...not these two. Jumping around their cage, eating their food, playing with the toys, coming right up to visit you, right onto your finger...wow...

(I will be getting papers on these 2, but the assistant manager was fired and 'hid' all the paper work...eek...they are searching).

Here are a few pics, any suggestions on what type of peachface they are?

Oh no, I need to figure out names...and I think we know that I am TERRIBLE at this (ex. Little Chicken).

Cute little sweeties. Look like WF (Turquoise) Edge Dilutes, but the pencilling isn't really that strong. They are still young and their appearance will change with their first molt. What color are their flights? If they are white with a grayish, pencilled edge then Edged Dilute is it. If the flights are a darker tannish color, then it's a blue series cinnamon. Of course, I could be completley wrong, but that's just what I'm seeing.

They are GORGEOUS! I don't think I have ever seen any mutation like that, either. But they definitely are not slates, because slates have two dark factors, which make the rump grey (not blue). They look like they are some type of dilute. I'd be very interested to here what some of the experienced breeders has to say about their mutation.

In the meantime, good thing you live in Canada, because I might of been tempted to start a career in fidnapping!
