But you know, survival of the fittest dictates that UNLESS this mutation is beneficial and somehow helps the the ducky adapt to its environment, s/he will most likely die, or never reproduce...

If it did survive to adulthood though, I wonder what would happen? Could it mate? Could it reproduce? Is it a stable mutation? That's weird!
I hope they write a follow up to this ducky's fate. At first, I thought someone was toying with their Corel Paint program and just "created" those extra legs, but the story seems fairly legitimate?
I would imagine it'll have to be kept as a pet if it is to survive. I wonder if his flight would be affected with the extra weight?
