Default Best way to introduce Squeaky and Ducky?

This coming weekend, Squeaky and Ducky will have been in their cages side by side for 2 weeks. They have done a lot of chirping to and watching of each other. When I let Squeaky out, he flies right to Ducky's cage and checks him out. Then Ducky tries to feed him. Squeaky is sometimes interested and sometimes not. When I let Ducky out, he mostly hangs out on me (due to his wing clip) although today he fluttered to the floor in Squeaky's cage direction (only to end up under the dining room table!) They seem to want to be buddies.

What is the best way to introduce them? I was going to open both of their cage doors, grab a chair and watch what happens. I will be ready to jump in if there appears to be any toe biting or other aggressive behaviours.

Squeaky is pretty good at dodging toe bites (lots of practice with his old mate!) and he is fully flighted. Ducky seems to be still adjusting a bit to his wing clip and did have his toes nipped by birds at his previous home. Should I wait longer? Or proceed as above? Should I take them to another room away from their cages on a play gym?

Any experience / advice you have is greatly appreciated!

By the way, both birds seem much happier and playful now that they are side-by-side! I have especially noticed Squeaky perk up and play more often. Ducky was pretty perky to begin with!

I think you've quarantined and done all the proper things and I think it's a great idea to see how they do out together. You could open their cages and see how they do, or you could bring each of them out and set them on top their cages so no birdy is starting from inside their cage. I say the only advise I have is to watch out and stay close in case they need a birdy referee. I would also advise not to overreact if there is any beak sparring or feet biting. I'm not saying ignore it, but calmly separate them, and look out for the normal spats and the aggressive, these birds need to be separated spat.......You may also try and put some treats and water in a community area so the boys can hang out and be social over a meal.

Good luck and let us know how it goes

    Thanks Laura!

I think these guys are bonding already even without outside cage time together. I've got Ducky in the home office with me right now. All he's doing is running back and forth along my shoulders calling to Squeaky downstairs and Squeaky is calling to him. Ducky doesn't seem to be too interested in playing with me now!
